PostSubject: Defending Mako   Sat Nov 10, 2012 11:42 am

Ah Mako you're such a great guy and an awesome character. So why must he get all this hate? Oh, I know because he kissed Korra and didn't tell his girlfriend about it! Oh and he didn't break up with her!

The one thing that bother me the most on tumblr during season 1 were people hating on Mako after the episode where he kissed Korra. Well, I'm here to defend my dear Mako.

Okay so the hate started after the Spirit Competition. Or did it start after the episode When Extremes Meet? Oh, well! I'm just going to start defending after the events of Spirit Competition.

Okay so in the episode the three main characters find themselves in a love square. Korra loves Mako, but he loves Asami (turns out Mako loves Korra too! So does this make it a love pentagon?) and Bolin loves Korra. Korra gets love advice to go after Mako despite the fact that he has a girlfriend. Near the end of the episode Korra finds out that Mako likes her and in the heat of the moment she kisses Mako and he kisses her back.

So at this moment fans claim that Mako kissing Korra is him cheating on Asami. I have to disagree. Why? Well, after their kiss they (along with Bolin) decide to remain friends and focus on the pro-bending competition. They put their feelings aside and that's that. If that didn't happen and Mako and Korra hooked up then yes he would have been cheating on Asami. Also!! Korra was the one who kissed him! He was just being a stupid boy and kissed her back.

Next after the events of When Extremes Meet the main characters go out to look for Korra after they find out that she has gone missing. Mako's feelings for Korra is showing and it doesn't help that Asami found out about the kiss from Ikki. After they find Korra Asami sees how much Mako cares for her when he basically runs to her. So does this make him a bad person? No I don't think so. In a time in crisis your feelings for someone can really show. He was probably scared that something bad happened to her so he couldn't repressed his feelings for her anymore.

Finally, in the season Finale Korra and Mako become a couple. Fans were alarmed because Mako didn't break up with Asami. I can't find a screenshot so hear me out. Just before Mako and Korra were leaving the sewers Mako and Asami shared a look. To me this look was the break up scene. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? Anyway, it counts to me and also it doesn't help that the season finale was rushed. If we had more episodes I'm sure we would have gotten a breakup scene.

So there you have it! I don't think Mako is bad person. He's just your typical teenage boy. Thoughts? Disagreements?

You know, it makes me rather angry when people hate on characters because they're flawed. -.- it's like, you know, you can't have it both ways. If the characters were perfect, everyone would complain about how perfect they are.

Do people think this doesn't happen in real life? Besides, a lot of that "love" stuff happened (and quickly) because this season was supposed to be it. There wasn't supposed to be anymore Korra (they are so funny for thinking that people would be happy with only one season).

Also, while it isn't cheating when someone forces themselves on you, it's kinda cheating, even in this case because Mako had feelings for Korra. If he had no feelings, then it would be different and I'd say it wasn't cheating at all. I mean it still isn't, because Korra is the one that did it. She was then technically emotionally cheating on Bolin, too, if you think about it. But like 90% wasn't Mako's fault. There's still that 10% because he had feelings for Korra. But yeah.

I don't hate Mako, but I don't know how his relationship with Korra will go now because they got together and said they love each other super quickly (I know, writing and all that, trying to wrap up what was supposed to be the only season). But since it IS picked up for more seasons, I dunno how it'll go.

And yes you are right. I understood the break up between Asami and Mako. They exchanged certain words and gave each other certain looks. They didn't need to go "we're done". They just, knew. I feel like Asami just knew for awhile and finally when she and Mako talked, they just, finalized it in their own way.

I'm glad you understood what I was talking about. The only way I consider someone cheating is if they actually saw the person behind their partners back. Just because you have feelings for someone doesnt necessarily mean it's cheating. I think the show hinted he had feelings for Korra in episode 2 during window scene. You know when Korra and Mako are gazing out their windows and looking in each other's directions?

Yeah, that would make sense. Relationship stuff as a whole is just really complicated. Nothing is ever black and white. Not even in fiction.

I feel like the gazing out the window scene then was a big hint XD a big foreshadowing.

Oh yes, we all knew those two would end up together because of the window scene. ;)

I wish Mako would have told Asami about the kiss. I want to know how she would have reacted. I felt like she would have understand because it was in the heat of the moment.
